We are pained to learn of the death of our esteemed friend and fellow citizen Thomas Chew, living west of Cicero, on Tuesday last, from lung fever. Mr. Chew was a native of Virginia, and born in that state in 1801, making him 78 years of age at the time of his death. He settled in Hamilton County thirty-nine years ago, and earnestly, industriously, devoted himself to the stern duties of pioneer life, performing well his part in subduing the wilderness and establishing civilization. During these days of toll, he succeeded in raising a family and accomodating a handsome competence. Uncle Tommy was a worthy citizen and lived a most useful life. At last he has quietly passed from earth and leaves an unspotted reputation and name to be cherished by a mourning community.
