Thomas Chadwell, progenitor of the Chadwell family of New England, was born about 1612, probably in Little Barrington, in the Cotswold region of Gloucestershire, England. The earliest record in this country is on 2 March 1637 when Thomas Chadwell was received for an inhabitant of Salem and allowed a ten-acre lot on the Cape Ann Side. Shortly afterwards he removed to Lynn where his first known child, Moses, was born. His wife's name was Margaret but her maiden name has not been determined. She was the mother of his three children, and after her death, Thomas married second, widow Barbara Davis Brimblecome. After her death he married third widow Abigail Wyeth Jones and removed to Charlestown. Thomas Chadwell was a shipwright by trade and at his death he left an estate of 137-5-0 pounds.
