Agnes Carpenter, widow of Godalming, Surrey, wrote her will on 23 April 1546. It included:

"Item: I lent unto Thomas Carpenter, my sonne, 2od, which money I will that Thomas, shall pay the said money to my Executor."

"Item: Thomas Carpenter my son, borrowed from me a flock bed and a bolster, 2 pillows with their two pillowcases, 2 platters, 2 pewter, dishes, a towel of red. I will that the said Thomas shall deliver to my executor or Overseer, not given or bequeathed the residue of my goods, ..."

"Item: I will that my Sonne, shall pay unto Richard Carpenter, my Sonne, 12d that he oweth me unto me for corn and sheep, witness hereof in perfect mynde."
