Will of Thomas Burnett

Will of Thomas Burnett Jr., written 14 September 1745 and proved 19 September 1749, Essex Co. Virginia:
In the name of God, Amen, I, Thos Burnett of the Parish of Southpharnam and the County of Essex being sick and weak of body but of sound mind and perfect memory praised be God for the same, and knowing the uncertainty of the transitory life and that all flesh is grass and must stoope to death and being desirous to settle the things in order before I go hence and be nomore seen. I do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following:
Imprimis, I give and bequeath my Soul into the hands of God Almighty my Creator and Maker who gave it me assuredly believing that I shall receive full pardon free and absolute remission of all my sins and be saved by the precious death and merits of his Son my mediator and redeemer Jesus Christ. I bequeath my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried in decent and Christian manner as my Extrs or Trustees hereafter named shall think fit. As for my worldly Estate which God hath lent me:
My Will and testament is that they shall be imployed and bestowed as hereafter is appointed; further my Will and desire is that my loving Wife Sary Burnett, have the use of the thirds of my land during her natural life.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my three sons, Thos Burnett, John Burnett, and William Burnett all my Land to be equally divided amongst them and their heirs forever.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my son, Thos Burnett, one young horse and a Gun.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my son, John Burnett, one young mare and a Gun.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my son, William Burnett, one Gun.
Item - My will & desire is that my two Negroes, Jane & Simon and all the rest of my estate be equally divided amongst my wife & five children, Thos., John, William, and Lucey and Pheby; and their heirs forever; When my son William Burnett, be of the age of Eighteen years, my will and desire is that my two Sons, John and William William, be of age when they come to Eighteen years;
Further, I do hereby constitute and appoint my loving Wife, Sary Burnett, and my son Thomas Burnett, my hole & sole Exetrs. of this my last Will and Testament wherefore I have affixed my hand and seal this 14th of September 1745.

At a Court held for Essex County at Tappahannock on the 19th day of September Anno Dom 1749 This Last Will and Testament of Thomas Burnett deceased was this day exhibited in Court by Thomas Burnett the Executor therein named which was proved by the Oath of the said Executor and also by the oath of both the witnesses thereto and thereupon admitted to record and is truly recorded.
