Thomas Allen's origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is on 10th October 1757, when he married Mary Collop at Stotfold in Bedfordshire.

Thomas and Mary went on to have seven children baptised at Stotfold between 1758 and 1766, including twins in 1766. Mary died shortly after having the twins; they were baptised on 31st May and she was buried just over three weeks later on 24th June. The twins did not long outlive their mother, and both were buried during July.

Thomas survived Mary by 26 years. He was buried at Stotfold on 16th September 1792.
