Was raised as a Baptist. When a teenager, she and a friend tried to use a depilatory cream to "shave" their legs, her father found out and was horrified. Converted to Mormonism when she was pregnant with the twins.
Married again after her 3 kids, to a man named Mercer. Divorced.
From California, they moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, then about 1966 moved to Salem, Oregon. At the same time, others moved to Salem as well: her son John "Bud" and his family, her adopted kids Connie and Vernon, as well as the Bud's wife's parents (the Brays.)
