Will of Theophilus Yates
I, Theophilus Yates of CC, planter, am sick and weak of body but of sound mind, memory and understanding.
Firstly, my debts and funeral charges are to be paid.
- To my daughter Jane Ludle Yates the following Negroes and their increase, to wit, Pegg, Rachel, Priss, Anna, Walter, Nace, Lett, Josias, Frank, Jene, John, Beck, Lyd, Peter, Lyn, Ralph, Willson, Nann, & Jack.
- To my son Henry Smith Yates the following Negroes, to wit, Jude, Easter, Victory, Abraham, Townley, Winney, Semer,
Sam, Harry, Watt, Jacob, Moll, Sarah, Nell, Pett, Nelsdy, Bill, Mary, Priss.
- To Henry Smith Hawkins if my sd 2 children die underage without heirs, the whole of the Negroes, with their increase, that came with my wife, shall return again to Henry Smith Hawkins or his heirs.
- To my afd 2 children the rest of my personal estate, to be equally divided between them.
