- Theophilus Williams was born Jan. 19, 1755 in Duplin County, North Carolina. He married Clarity Barfield there on June 26, 1776. She was the daughter of Jesse Barfield and Sarah Castellaw.
He served as "High Sheriff" of Duplin County, NC after the Revolutionary War. He is mentioned, together with others of the Barfield family, as those who received a deed of gift from Jesse Barfield, Theophilus' father-in-law. This was in addition to two deeds of gift made to him by his father, Joseph Williams in May 1763. One was for the homeplace of Joseph Williams in St. Gabriels Parish, Duplin County: the other was for slaves and household funiture to be recieved after the death of Theophilus' mother, Mary Williams. Theophilus died in Duplin County, NC in 1793.
