A great-great grandson of William Maple Sr (1738-1812), Telford Grant Maple wrote "A Genealogical History of the Maple/Mapel Family in America". Grant had in his possession the notes of John Jameson Mapel (1848-1932), and these served as the foundation for Grant's book.
