Facts and Events
an Excerpt from Carrie Manning's Family Essay dated 5 March 1940 " My grandmother Phillips was a young widow. She was left with these four little girls and a farm in the Flower Hill district of Warwick and there was a mortgage of $500 on the farm. I remember her very well, there is a picture of her knitting and sitting in the quaint old rocker with woven rushbottom seat which I still own. [NOTE: This rocker still exists in the living family 2013] She was a very lovely grandmother, and I visited there in my childhood as Warwick is only about 11 miles from Orange my home. My mother told me how grandmother cared for her children and with the help of "hired men" carried on her farm, made it pay, paid off the mortgage and left money to her daughters at her death. When my mother was possibly sixteen or eighteen years of age, grandmother married Mezlar Williams who had three sons." Image Gallery
