According to the Sallie DeWitt Genealogy of 1981, an obituary in an un-named and undated newspaper stated, "Pioneer Citizen Passes Away. At the ripe old age of 83 years, Mrs. Talitha Abernathy died Sunday, April 29. "Aunt Ann" as she was affectionately known - came with her parents from Illinois and settled in Franklin County when a mere child. She grew to womanhood in a few miles of this place and was a prominent teacher in her day. A number of older persons remember her affectionately as having recieved their first schooling under her. SHe united with the Christian Church in early childhood and her entire life was in keeping with the teachings of her church. In young womanhood she was happily married to William D. Abernathy. The two fought life's battles together bravely, sharing the joys and sorrows together until 1899 when he preceeded her. Since that time, she has made her home with her son, W. K. Abernathy. It is fittingly said of her she was a good citizen, a kind neighbor, a faithful friend, and a devoted mother. Interment - King's Cemetery. The large crowd which assembled to pay the last tribute of respect, attested the high esteem in which she was held."
