Lanning, Sylvester C "Sy" Retired carpenter/millwright

Sylvester C "Sy" Lanning, 85, of Van Buren St, Fostoria, died at 7:20 p. m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in the Toledo Hospital.

He was born Dec. 28, 1914, in Kansas OH, to Charles and Ollie (Luman) Lan ning. He first married Vera Detillian, who died in October 1971. His seco nd wife, Hallie Lanning, died in 1982.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elsie) Gillespie of Delphos, C arol Rinehart and Mrs. Clyde (Sharon) Kimble, both of Fostoria; a siste r, Bertha Reinhart of Kansas; 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren a nd 32 great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Ella Mae Nye, Jenny Bel le Hillebrand and Martha Merkle; a grandson and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lanning, retired in 1984 as a carpenter and millwright in Toledo, whe re he had been employed for 25 years. Prior to that he was employed at Uni on Carbide in Fostoria for 20 years.

An avid woodworker, he also made and repaired musical interments.

Pastor Keith Davis will conduct the 1 p.m. Friday service in the Harrold-F loriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Knollcrest Memorial Gard ens, near Arcadia.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
