At the R B Hayes' Presidential Library in Fremont OH, they have listed under Sylvanas P Hathaway, a 1901 Estate - Probate Case #5358. At the R B Hayes' Presidential Library in Fremont OH, they also ha listed under Celestina A Hathaway a 1910 Estate - Probate Case # 7108. They did not have an obit listed for Sylvanus P Hathaway, so here is w hat I found in "My Ole Derricks." The Gibsonburg Derrick Gibsonburg OH Thursday, 28 March 1901, page 1, column 2. Obituary: Sylvanus P Hathaway was born in Assonnett, Massachusetts, May 6, 183 6. In 1837 his parents moved to Sandusky CO OH. On October 4th he was married to Celestia A Holcomb, who still survives him. To them were born seven childr en, four of whom, two sons and two daughters are still living. Shortly after his ma rriage he moved to Fostoria OH, where in August 1862 he enlisted with Compa ny A, of the 111th O.V.I, and served his country till the close of the war. He was a member of Hamilton Post G.A.R No. 90, at Bradner OH. About 1877 he returned to Sandusky CO and settled in Rollersville, whe re for five years he was engaged in the mercantile business. In 1882 he excha nged his property in town for a farm one mile west, where he lived at the time of h is death. While living at Fostoria, he and his wife united with the Methodist Ep iscopal church at that place, and on removing to Sandusky CO they were, on April 2 8, 1878, received by letter into membership with the church at Rollersvill e, then known as the "First Congregational church of Scott Twp." During the vario us changes of denomination to which the society has been subject, from the Congregational to the Church of Christ, and finally to the M.E Mr. Hathaw ay has always remained faithful to the church and to the religious interests of t he community. For many years he was Sunday school superintendent, and at t he time of his death was a member of the board of Trustees. For the past nine years he has been a constant but patient suffere r. In his death the G.A.R loses a loyal comrade, the community one of its most honor ed citizens, and the church a worthy member and liberal supporter. His last i llness was brief and death claimed him at his home, Saturday night, March 9. The funeral service was held in the church in Rollersville, Tuesday, M arch 12, at 11 a.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.T Dumm. Members of the Po st acted as pall bearers, and the interment was at the Quinshan burial ground s.
