Signed up for British Army on 17 Nov 1915 at the age of 23 years and 60 days (which equates to 18 Sep 1892). Son of William Jeffs of 49 Cumberland Street, Loughborough. Sidney was employed as a "khaki worker" (making uniforms?) for Messrs Wright & Co. He was not married.
Approved for service 8 May 1916 as Soldier #357968, private with the Liverpool Regiment.
Embarked at Folkestone, Kent on 16 Sep 1916 for Boulogne to serve on the "eastern front, France". The following three pages of the form were mostly illegible or left blank, but he was taken POW at some point. The last date visible in this section was 17 Feb 1917.
He was repatriated on 12 Dec 1918 and arrived at London for transfer to King George's Hospital. His dispersal certificate was dated 9 Mar 1919, but except for the signature all details were blank.
FindMyPast has a record of him winning a medal, but does not give the name or the reason. It could simply have been a "service medal".
