In her book about the McGuffee's, Alice Blackman Winegeart states thather grandma Susie taught them how to catch crawfish and cook them; how to cut a notch in a sweet gum tree to get gum for chewing. She had a stroke in 1950 that paralyzed her legs and she could only nod "yes" and "no".
