Susannah Hawkins’ origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 30th December 1810, when she married an agricultural labourer called William Meakins at Woburn in Bedfordshire. He was a widower, whose first wife had died eleven years earlier. He was originally from Woburn, although at the time of the married he was recorded as living at Shenley in Buckinghamshire, about nine miles west of Woburn. William and Susannah had one son, William, baptised at Woburn in 1814. It has yet to be established when Susannah died. William was described as a widower in 1851. |
