John Hale Stutesman Jr., in his 1983 book JACOB STUTZMAN (?-1775) HIS CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN, on page 51, lists Susannah Stutzman, born circa 1775, as a daughter of David Stutzman, and states, "John Overholser (cl765-1842) lived in the Brethren communities of Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and Montgomery County, Ohio, close to the Stutzman families. He named "wife Susannah" in his will in 1840; and it has been speculated that she was Susannah Stutzman."

I have done extensive research on this family and am convinced that this is wrong. After correspondence a number of years ago, John Hale Stutesman agreed with me. There is no documentation for this connection and John Overholser's wife was probably born well before 1775, since her first child was born in 1787.

The major documentation supporting Susannah, wife of John Overholser, being the daughter of Jacob Snider is that John Overholser received a large payment from Jacob Snider?s estate which is very likely Jacob's daughter Susannah's share of the inheritance. We also know that John Overholser?s family was connected with Susannah Snider? family since his sister Susannah married her brother John. (There are definitely a lot of Johns and Susannahs in this family.) I will send Bev a copy of my summary of my research on this family.
