Susan Wood, daughter of Edmund Wood and sister of the immigrant of the same name, probably born about 1590. She married first, about 1611, Thomas Butterfield, a prominent citizen of Ovenden, who was buried at Halifax on 16 September 1614. Thomas Butterfield, "a man of most religious life blameless in the Church," made his will on 4 September 1614. It was proved 3 July 1615 (Walker, op.cit,, p. 88, quoted by Seversmith). Susan married second at Halifax, 21 August 1616, Matthew Mitchell of Southowrarn. In the records of baptism of his children, Matthew Mitchell is called a resident of Southowrarn, except for the birth of the youngest, when his residence is given as Northowram.
