The paperwork on the warrants of land of John Jones, entitled War of 1812 Virginia Service of John Jones and Susan (Bickers) Jones WO 2544 and WC 4251, reads as follows:

      Bounty land warrants #S25056 for 80 acres in 1850. Enlisted May 1, 1813 and discharged October 13, 1813. Resided 1850 at Orange County, Virginia and the widow in 1872 resided in said county - her maiden name was Susan Bickers. They married December 25, 1811, in Virginia and he died 18 March 1867.
      Certificate of Identity and Oath of Service is filed in Orange County, Virginia, 18 February 1851 by John Jones, age 64, a resident of said county that he is identical John Jones who was a private under Captain Isaac Willis of Culpeper County, Virginia, in the Virginia militia commanded by Colonel Armistead T. Mason; that he was drafted at Culpeper County, Virginia, the last of March 1813 for six months and served for 6½ months and discharged at Norfolk Borough, VA, about 1st October 1813 on account of expiration of service.
      Copy of Marriage record is filed by clerk of Orange County, Virginia, showing the marriage of John Jones and Susan Bickers, daughter of Joseph Bickers of Orange County, Virginia, who signed the marriage bond with said John Jones. This license was dated 23 December 1811. It was sent in by the County Clerk 11 November 1871.
      Declaration was made by Susan Jones in Orange County, Virginia, 17 April 1871 stating she is widow of John Jones.
      Declaration also made in 1872 by Susan Jones, age 77, that maiden name was Susan Bickers, that they were married at her father’s residence, Joseph Bickers, in Orange County, Virginia...as shown above, that her husband died at his residence in Orange County, Virginia, March 18, 1868. Two witnesses to her signature were William H. Bickers and James G. McClary.
