Obituary rec'd from Michael McTeer 7 Nov 2011: Wirt County Journal, Friday, February 2, 1945 Mrs. Susan Monroe Is Called By Death. Mrs. Susan Monroe, aged 92, former resident of Elizabeth and Parkersburg, died Wednesday in Baltimore, Maryland, where she was residing with a son, R. A. Monroe, also formerly of this county. The deceased was the widow of the late Rev. Thomas Monroe, pioneer Baptist minister in Wirt county, who precered (sic) her in death fifteen years ago. After the death of her husband she went to Parkersburg and spent several years with her son, R. A. Monroe, then they later moved to Baltimore. She was born and reared in Wirt county and is prominently known in this section. She has several relatives living in South Parkersburg. The late William Monroe of South Parkersburg was a son of the deceased. She is survived by one son, with whom she lived in Baltimore and a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Lockhart of Parkersburg. The body arrived in Parkersburg Saturday morning and was brought to the Pomroy funeral home at Elizabeth to remain for the service. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Shiloh Baptist church with the Rev. H. L. Short of Parkersburg officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
