According to a personal interview with Richard Stiles, Steve Crook was never married.

Steve and his brother John ran away from home. They got into legal trouble when they beat up a boy so badly they thought he was dead. Steve and John sold their horse and buggy and took the money to escape to Canada. They remained there and may have died there.
