Forthcoming information suggests that Person:Stephen Parish (1) is not the correct Stephen for this family.

New UNPROVEN theory regarding this Stephen Parish.

This extensive, and extended Parish family did love to use, and then reuse the same first names. There are quite a few Isaac's, Stephen's, Jasper's, etc.

Taking most of the living children's 1880 Federal census information in to account, most answered that their father was born in Vermont. That is possible because some of Zebulon Parish & Hannah Kimball sons did go to Vermont. That could make this Stephen Parish a possible grandson of Zebulon Parish and Hannah Kimball possibly born about 1770 in Vermont. That would make him roughly the same age as his wife Lena. It also looks like most of this Stephen Parish's children were born in the Milford, PA - Palmyra, PA area. Daughter Ellen Parish was born after their arrival in Ontario County (Monroe County), New York.

It is possible that this Stephen Parish married twice first to a Lena Houghtaling, and then to an Eleanor, or that Lena used the English name Eleanor. The Eleanor Parish of Rush, Monroe Co., begins in 1830 Rush, NY census till 1860. In 1850, 1855, and 1860 varies place of birth from PA, NJ, and NY. Eleanor Parish's age fits the Lena (Houtaling) Parish's baptism.

There is a gap in the children's birth order to suggest that this Stephen Parish did fight in the War of 1812 probably in Pennsylvania, maybe in New York. It could be that the youngest child Ellen (Parish) Whipple was named after her mother (Lena) Eleanor. Ellen (Parish) Whipple's death certificate says her mother's maiden name is Houghtaling.

Most of this new information (sources) does agree with the Parish Book.

Thanks to my father's cooperation (he is also a WeRelate member) I will now enter into the GEDCOM the new information. It will take some time to enter most of this new information. When completed I will upload it under my father's User account with his permission. I will then merge the file.

If anyone would like further details please leave a message on my WeRelate User Talk page. Debbie Freeman --DFree 15:16, 16 July 2009 (EDT)
