"191. Stephen⁶ Gilbert (Abijah,⁵ Josiah,⁴ John,³ Thomas,² Thomas¹), born Aug. 5, 1761 (or 1762), at South Salem, N. Y.; died there, June 25, 1844, aged 81 years 10 months 20 days (gravestone); married Feb. 16, 1784, Sarah Upson, born July 15, 1763; died Dec. 31, 1814, aged 51 years 5 months 16 days; daughter of Stephen and Sarah (Clark) Upson of Waterbury, Conn. Stephen Gilbert resided in South Salem, N. Y. He was a Revolutionary soldier, probably in a New York company or regiment. He applied for a pension May 27, 1833, then aged 72 years, and it was allowed. [Revolutionary Pension Files, S 23655.]"
