Other records list this individual as John Stephan Ferris and Ferris is also spelled Ferriss. Records in possession of submitter indicate this individual was 102 years old at time of death. A history sent by a James G. Ferris in Brownsboro, AL in Dec 1997 states: "Stephen Ferris b. 1729 Kilkenny County, Ireland d. December 14, 1831 New Milford m. August 27, 1771 Sarah Drinkwater d. June, 1808, age 70 years. He embarked on a merchantman at the age of 12 or 13, but was afterwards pressed on board a man-of-war, in which service he continued for some time, being at the seige of Havanna by the British in 1762. He escaped from the man-of-war, probably the next winter or summer, as he lived in New Jersey eight years, at which time he came to New Milford and married. He had several brothers; among them Robert, Paul and John, on of whom he saw awhile on board the man-of-war, that being the last time he ever saw any of his relatives. He was a farmer in New Milford.
