STEPHEN H. CURTIS

Stephen Hiram Curtis, 86, died last night in a Fresno hospital following an illness of about a week.

Curtis was born in Michigan and had been in Fresno since about 1885. He had worked as a ditch tender for the Fresno Irrigation District for 35 years when he retired in 1952.

He lived since January 1st in a rest home at 820 Mildreda Avenue. He formerly resided at 4578 North DeWolf Avenue, Clovis.

He is survived by his widow, Maggie M. (Jackson); two sons, Emery F. Curtis of Van Nuys, Los Angeles County, and Leonard W. Curtis of Elko, Nev.; six daughters, Mrs. Barbara McIntosh and Mrs. Jane Weber of Fresno, Mrs. Helen Trower and Mrs. Evelyn Cunningham of North Fork, Madera County, Mrs. Myrtle Thompson of Sanger and Mrs. Doris Keller of Honolulu, Hawaii. Seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

The services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the chaple of the Boice Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Redbanks Cemetery.
