[edit] Sources[edit] Related[edit] NotesFirst mention of Starrett Dobbins is in the will of his maternal grandfather, Benjamin Starrett of Guilford Co, NC in 1776 leaves to my grandson Staratt Dobins 16 pounds." Next record shows him in Caswell Co. NC 23 Feb 1791 as a bondsman for the marriage of William Stafford and Fanny Whitlow. The Staffords owed land on both sides of Dobbins wagon road in Caswell Co. NC. Starrett Dobbins received a land grant of 373 acres south of Saluda River in Pendleton District SC in 1799. It is adjacent to Benjamin Starrett, his uncle. In a letter written by Moses Hughes, Starretts grandson (son of Rebecca Dobbins and Bradford Hughes), he says, "My father and mother with 7 children left the state of AL, Talladega Co on the 25th day of Nov 1834, with 70 persons all of one connection, and landed at the mouth of the Brazos river on 29 Jan 1835.
