He served as captain of Militia in North Carolina in the War of 1812, Eighth North Carolina Regiment, 5th Company. His name appears on the veteran's roster in the Ashe County courthouse.
Oil Fields Baptist Church, later known as the Baptist Church at Old Fields, was established in 1803, near New River, Ashe Co., NC. Ordained that year, Squire was its first pastor and a charter member.
He was listed in the records of the Three Forks Baptist Church in Watagua Co., NC. He was one of the first elders of the Salem Baptist Church organized in 1830, in Liverpool Township, and the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church near Canton, Fulton Co., IL Records for Squire at Bethel Church include in his name a middle initial "W."
