Sophie Wessels

Sophie Wessels, 82, of Crescent City, died at 7:20 pm, Tuesday at Iroquois Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 20, 1898 at Woodworth to Dietrich and Margaret Werner Boyer. She married John Wessels at Woodworth on Jan. 6, 1921. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1959.

Surviving are one son, Lowell, of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Marian Wall of Crescent City and Lorraine Meents of Ashkum; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, John Boyer of Princeville, Illinois and Rev. Herman D. Boyer of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and one sister. Alline Lucht of Lawrence, Michigan

She was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Boyer.

She and her husband farmed for many years in Crescent Township.

She was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Crescent City and the Mary Ruth Circle of the church.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter, with the Rev. Harold Heinzig officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 3-5 and 7-9 pm Thursday at the DeValk Funeral Home in Watseka and for one hour before the services at the church.
