Reconstruction:

Simon's father remarried in 1860, when he was about 13 years old, In 1867 he is enlisted in the army in New York, so he must have immigrated to the US before 20 Mar 1867 at the age of 19. It is very possible that he left the Netherlands from the port of Bremen in Germany.and in New York alone and without money, he might be recruited, When he was discharged in 1870 he already lived in Vicksburg, he was than 23 years old. He gave as his proffession Cotton Buyer and Vicksburg is just the place for that :-)


His sister however immigrated in 1887 she married in Germany,ans settled in San Francisco.
