Simon Walker: Biographical Information

Simon Walker, age 40, opened a Freedmen's Bank account in Charleston, June 9, 1871. His application indicates that he was born and raised in St. Andrews Parish, Charleston County, South Carolina. He listed his residence as Drayton Hall Plantation, St. Andrews Parish.

In 1871 Simon was living with his second wife Dolly. With his first wife, whose name we do not know, he had children Renty and Dianah Walker. At the time of his Freedmen's Bank record he and his second wife Dolly had two children, Hessey and Edward.

Simon stated that his father's name was Cudjoe Walker and his mother's name was Die. Both are listed as deceased on his 1871 Freedmen's Bank record.

The 1880 Federal Census for St. Andrews Parish lists two more of Simon and Dolly's children: Julia, age 4, and Celia, age 2. Also in the household was 15 year old Dixon Hutchinson, who is listed as Simon's brother-in-law.
