"Knox County Kentucky Kinfolk, Vol XII, #4, Oct 1988" Simon Peter Jones came to Whitley Co., KY approximately 1820, leaving North Carolina because he thought he had killed a man in a fight over a girl. Accompanied by two brothers, one settled in Clay Co., KY. The other, William, stayed in Whitley Co. As an old man, Simon learned that in fact the man he fought with had not died, and he was able to return to North Carolina to visit relatives. William Jones, his brother, was found frozen to death near a large tree; legend says, he became incapacitated after one of his frequent drinkin sprees before finding shelter."
