"Great Uncle Hor (Horace Dowell) (later went to Mo.) when 16 yrs. soldiers came to Stith Valley to father William H. Dowell & Nancy Dowell & asked where Meadeville Saloon was. They said Horace (who was 16 yr.) could take them there at top of hill above Meadeville they made Uncle Hor trade a good (Blaze face roan) horse for one of theirs. Uncle Hor rode her home & fed & fattened he up & one afternoon about sundown she was grazing along lane near house & all of a sudden she whinned pricked up her ears & started loaping off & was not seen in Stith Valley again"
