Elijah R. Dowell Passes Away - Elijah R. Dowell, son of Wm. and Nancye Dowell, was born June 28, 1860, departed this life, Feb. 27, 1949, age 88 years, 7 months, 29 days.
He was married to Laura Alice Miller Nov. 15, 1883, and to this union twelve children were born, four of whom preceded him in death, three of them dying in infancy.
His wife died April 26, 1904, leaving him with eight children, one of whom was 28 days old and all through the years he filled the place of father and mother to these children.
The surviving children are: Mrs. Lena Prather, Big Spring; Mrs. Inez Flowers, Louisville; Mrs. Fannie Howard, Elizabethtown, Mrs. Rosa Dowell, Bewleyville, Richard Dowell, Guston, Tom Dowell, West Point, Ind.; Mrs. Ida Adkisson, Linden, Ind. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; one sister, Dr. C. S. Dowell, Bowling Green, Ky., and a host of other relatives and friends.
He made a profession of faith in Christ 53 years ago, under the preaching of Bro. Henry Sledge and united with Hill Grove Church where he remained a faithful, loyal member until his death.
Funeral services were held at Hill Grove Church Tuesday, March 1st, conducted by Rev. E. B. English, assisted by the pastor Rev. Graff parish. Burial in Buck Grove Cemetery.
