According to notes from his grandson Edwin F. Crane (now available here), he was a member of the New Jersey State Council 1812-1814 and a JP in Stafford from 1813 to 1820. Those notes, allegedly written in the 1850s, also claim he was the son of Nathan and Mary Crane and have precise birthdates of all their children.
