Facts and Events
While living in Hallum, Dr Sijbren Rienk van der Leij attained his doctorate in mathematics and science from Hoogeschool, Groningen on 29 June 1870. The thesis was entitled:"Iets over de dissociatietheorie van Deville" which he dedicated to his parents and future mother-in-law, Sjoukje Jans Iest (Taekema), the wife of Pieter Klazes Iest. Dr Sijbren Rienk and his wife, Tjitske (Iest) lived in Leeuwarden before moving to Sneek on 29 October 1879. On 18 September 1882 they moved to Davos, Dörfl in Switzerland for a few years as he had contracted TB.He died in Haarlem at the age of 54. References
