Obituary, Pine Bluff (AR) Commercial, 2/5/2004: Shirley Tullis October 27, 1933 - February 2, 2004 McGEHEE -- Shirley Owens Tullis, 70, of McGehee, died Monday at McGehee Desha County Hospital at McGehee. She was born Oct. 27, 1933, at Cherry Valley (Cross County), the daughter of Odena Owens of Conway and the late Mike Owens. She was employed by McGehee Public Schools as a substitute teacher. She was a charter member of the first Girls Softball League and served on the City Parks Commission. She was honored as Woman of the Year by McGehee Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Mouzan Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Joe Tullis. Other survivors include one son, Mike Tullis of Sikeston, Mo.; three daughters, Cindy Sheffield of Conway, Melissa Tullis of Pine Bluff and Beth Lawson of Farmington (Washington County); one brother, Charles Owens of Benton; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church of McGehee with the Revs. David Kassos and Buddy Ratliff officiating. Burial will be in McGehee Cemetery by Griffin Funeral Services of McGehee. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of McGehee or a charity of donor's choice.

"McGEHEE, Ark. - Shirley Owens "An-Mama" Tullis, 70, died Feb. 2, 2004, at the McGehee Desha County Hospital in McGehee. Born Oct. 27, 1933, in Cherry Valley, Ariz., daughter of Odena Owens of Conway and the late Mike Owens, she was a substitute teacher for McGehee Public Schools and was active in children's sports activities in McGehee. A charter member of the first girls' softball league, she also served on the City Parks Commission for many years and was honored as Woman of the Year by the McGehee Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Mouzan Circle. Her husband, Thomas Joe Tullis, preceded her in death. Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sharon Tullis of Sikeston, Mo.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy and Butch Sheffield of Conway, Melissa Tullis of Pine Bluff and Beth and Gary Lawson of Farmington; one brother, Charles Owens of Benton, Ark.; and eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church of McGehee with the Revs. David Kassos and Buddy Ratliff officiating. Burial followed in the McGehee Cemetery. Griffin Funeral Service of McGehee was in charge of arrangements.
