In the January 1920 census she was 5 years old, and was a niece in the home of the Austin Cummings family. It appears Mrs. Cummings was her aunt and sister to her mother.

In August 1920 her father died from diabetes.

In April 1930 census she was the step-daughter to Irving Hartman, her mother's second husband. They divorced in 1938.
