Shirley L. (Chornobrywy) Staverosky passed suddenly and unexpectedly on March 20, 6 days short of her 91st birthday. She was a resident of Reading for the past 35 years. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur D. in 1986 and her oldest son A. Daniel in 2009. She is survived by her son Tom of Reading and his children Julia, Lea, Brian and Lily, her son Jerry of Aurora, CO and his children Vincent, Danielle, Alexander, Jena, and Libby, daughter Susan, wife of Jack Creswell, of Reading, and Daniel's son Jeffrey.
Shirley will be remembered for her joyful laugh and quick wit. She remained sharp and self reliant throughout her life still driving and sharing engaging conversations with those who knew her. A gamester at heart she had various groups of friends through the years with whom she enjoyed Bridge, Hearts, Mah Jongg, Hand and Foot and more. Her grandchildren will always remember her favorite line "I'll teach you how to win but I won't let you win".
She was an avid reader devouring books at a steady clip. Born in Pleasant Lake, Indiana she raised her family in Everett and Pottstown, Pennsylvania prior to moving to Reading upon the death of her late husband. Mom traveled widely upon her retirement from her work as a teacher's aid with the Montgomery County IU. She drove her RV on various sightseeing expeditions across the country, as well as spending many enjoyable winters in Florida. Shirley was an impeccable dresser and the granddaughters will enjoy choosing mementos from her extensive collection of scarfs, purses and shoes. Most all would comment that she maintained a youthful attitude and a look that belied her age.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will take place at her beloved St. Peter United Church of Christ, Knauertown.
