The grand marshall of the 1985 Bear Lake County Fair Parade is Sherman Burgoyne, long-time Montpelier businessman. Sherm has been at the Amoco Service Station at the corner of 8th and Washington Streets for over 40 years, first in partnership with his father, Joe Burgoyne and later alone. Sherm graduated from Montpelier High School in 1937. He graduated in 1941 from Utah State Agricultural College. He then servied in the army as a warrent officer. During WWII he spent time in Brussels, Belgium. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Montpelier. In 1951 he built his cabin on Bear Lake. In 1976 he md. Eldene Lewis who passed away in 1983. Sherm knows everyone in Bear Lake County and his generosity and helpfulness have made him friends wherever he goes. His station has come to be a local gathering place. |
