Sheldon C. Ives, 78, of Oak Hill died Monday in Columbia-Greene Medical Center in Hudson. Mr. Ives was born in Ashland, Greene County, and attended school there and in Windham, Greene County, before moving to Oak Hill in 1929. He was a 1933 graduate of Greenville Central School, the first class to graduate from the new school. He ran his family farm for 24 years and worked as a handyman for a few years. In 1967 he went to work for the state, agency not known retiring in 1977. Later, he worked for Lounsbury Appliances as a deliveryman until about 1987. Mr. Ives was a member of the Oak Hill-Durham United Methodist Church, the East Durham Grange and the old Oak Hill Fish & Game Club. He was a life member of the Oak Hill-Durham Volunteer Fire Co. and an avid bowler. He was the widower of Charlotte Volker Ives. Survivors include a son, Dana Ives of Lake Worth, Fla.; two daughters, Elaine Foster of Climax, Greene County, and Gail Garden of Oak Hill; a brother, Floyd Ives Jr. of Oak Hill; and a sister, Mildred Jane Ives of Oak Hill. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Oak Hill-Durham Ambulance Squad, the Oak Hill-Durham United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the American Cancer Society.
