    Sarah was the daughter of Samuel Warner and Elizabeth Baum. When her father died, Sarah's mother married John Byer, a widower with four children: Levi E., John Henry, Mary E. and Alexander. In 1878 Sarah married Alexander Byer and together they had seven children: John Ellsworth, Anna Cora, Edith Ilice, Mary A., Edward Warren, and two infants who died.
