Sarah Walby was baptised on 10th July 1665 at Watton-at-Stone in Hertfordshire, daughter of Sarah Walby, formerly Nash, and her husband Ralph Walby, a butcher. Sarah was the eldest of the couple's seven children. All her younger siblings were baptised a few miles north of Watton at Walkern. Sarah's father died in 1679, when Sarah was 13 years old. She is named in his will.
