- Marye & Wife to Redman Release
- This indenture made the 24th day of September 1764 between James Marye of the Parish of St. Thomas in the County of Orange and Sarah Marye of the one part and Solomon Redman of the parish of Cople and County of Westmoreland, millwright of the other part. Whereas Robert Vaulx, late of the parish of Washington in the County aforesaid, Gent., deceased did by his last will and testament bearing date the 30th day of October 1764 [sic 8 Aug. 1754] did give and devise unto his two daughters Betty Vaulx and Sarah Vaulx his water grist mill lying on the main branch of Rappahannock Creek being near the dividing line of the parish of Cople and the parish of Washington in the County aforesaid. And whereas the said Sarah Vaulx has intermarried with the said James Marye.
- Now this indenture witnesseth that James Marye and Sarah Marye his wife in consideration of 60 pounds current money of Virginia has sold unto Solomon Redman in his actual possession now being by virtue of a bargain and sale by indenture bearing date the day next before the day of the date of the said indenture and by force of the statute for transferring uses into possession one moiety or half part of the water grist mill aforesaid with all and singular the appurtenances to the same.
- In witness whereof the parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

- At a Court held for Westmoreland County the 28th day of May 1765 this indenture of lease was proved by the oath of Edward Ransdell, Edward Ransdell, Jr., and Richard Neale the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. Teste
- To Willoughby Newton, John Newton and John Augustine Washington, Justices of the Peace for the County of Westmoreland in the colony of Virginia, Gent. Whereas James Marye and Sarah Marye by their indenture of bargain and sale bearing date the 30th day of October last past has sold and conveyed unto Solomon Redman the fee simple estate of half a water grist mill lying in the parish of Cople in the County of Westmoreland and whereas the said Sarah Marye cannot conveniently travel to her court to make acknowledgment of the conveyance. Therefore, we do give unto you or any two of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Sarah be willing to make. Witness James Davenport, clerk of art said court the 10th day of November 1764.
- Westmoreland Sct. In obedience to the above commission to us directed we the subscribers did attend on the above-named Sarah Marye and presented to her the indentures therein mentioned and the said Sarah saith that she doth freely and voluntarily acknowledge and transfer her right and title to the half of the said mill therein mentioned without any compulsion or persuasion of her husband. Certified under our hands this 11th day of November 1764.
