  4. Jonathan's first wife is commonly identified as Sarah Dickinson. The basis for this is unknown as no marriage date is given (and no marriage record found), and no parents are identified. It is believed to be a vestigial remnant from an old error, the will of John Dickinson referred to deceased daughter Sarah Belding, meaning the wife of Samuel Belding, not the wife of Jonathan Belding. But since the basis isn't explained, we neither know why it is asserted, nor can we conclusively refute it. More research is needed.
