_MIDN: Isabell _MARN: Reynolds [edit] BiographySarah was born in 1849. She passed away in 1923. John S. Reynolds was born May 5, 1839 in Mason Co., Virginia, now West Virginia. When he was a child his widowed mother, Minerva Reynolds, moved her family of five children, four sons and one daughter, to Marion Co., Iowa. John enlisted in the Union Army in August 1862. He served with the Iowa Infantry, Regt' 40, Co., A from 1862 to 1865. He returned to Pella, Iowa, after he was discharged at Ft. Gibson, Arkansas. Sarah I, Thompson of Knoxville, Iowa became his wife February 16, 1869 in Marion Co., Iowa. To this union was born eleven children, three of whom did not survive to adulthood. In 1879 the family went to Missouri then to a farm near Adams, Gage County, Nebraska. After the opening of the Cherokee Strip in Oklahoma, the family came to a farm which they purchased from a man who had claimed it in the land race. It was located nine miles west of Pond Creek, Oklahoma. John received a Homestead Certificate for the SW1/4, S30,T25N, R6W of Indian Meridian. The younger children grew to adulthood there. Unknown Newspaper: Obit- John S. Reynolds The funeral of J. S. Reynolds, whose sudden death was reported in last week's paper, was held Sunday afternoon at the home, Rev. Alexander of the Presbyterian church officiating. A large crowd of friends and neighbors attended, attesting by their presence the respect and esteem the people held for Mr. Reynolds. After the Service at the house the body was laid to rest in the Pond Creek cemetery. Mr. Reynolds was near Apache when he was seized with his illness that terminated in his death, engaged with the other members of the board appraising school land. He was sick but about 12 hours, too short a time for his relatives to reach his bedside. His death is a sad blow to his family who have the sympathy of the entire community. Obituary- Mr. John S. Reynolds was born May 5th 1839 in Virginia and died Dec 10th 1908. He was 69 years old. At the age of 27 he married Miss Thordison of Knoxville, Iowa, with whom he lived 42 years and who now survives him. She bore him 11 children 3 of who 2 girls and one boy are dead. The living children are: F. C. Reynolds, Readout, Oklahoma; Mrs. Joe Price, Harper, Oklahoma; Will Reynolds, Ostoria, Oregon; Mrs Phil Hammon; Geo. Reynolds, Harry Reynolds, Floyd Reynolds and Mrs. John Bryson , Pond Creek. He was a soldier in the union army 4 years.
