Sarah Taylor's origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 5th October 1772, when she married a labourer called Charles Cannon at Hitchin in Hertfordshire. They went on to have three children baptised at Hitchin between 1775 and 1779.

Sarah a couple of years after her youngest child's baptism. She was buried at Hitchin on 15th December 1781. Charles survived her by about 36 years, and remarried in 1783.
