Sarah Taylor was baptised on 19th February 1808 at Hitchin in Hertfordshire, daughter of a labourer called William Taylor and his wife Rose.

The 1841 census finds Sarah living on Hollow Lane in Hitchin.

On 6th August 1842, aged 34, Sarah married a widower called John Stokes, a bricklayer, whose first wife had died earlier that year. Sarah and John went on to have two daughters in Hitchin in 1844 and 1847.

The 1851 census finds the family living on Back Street in Hitchin. John died in 1857, aged 70.

The 1861 census finds Sarah and her daughters living on Biggin Lane in Hitchin, along with several nieces and nephews.

Sarah died at the aged of 58, being buried at Hitchin on 1st November 1866.
