Sarah Ann Peck was born on 14th April 1866 at Wix in Essex, daughter of an agricultural labourer named William Peck and his wife Sarah. Young Sarah appears in the 1871 census living with her parents and siblings at Thorpe Road in Wix. By 1881 she was working as a domestic servant at the Waggon Inn at Wix Cross.
By 1891 Sarah had left Essex and moved to the south-western suburbs of London, working as a cook at a house at Barnes in Surrey.
On 5th August 1894, aged 28, Sarah married a gardener named John Rudwick, who was from Trotton in Sussex. They married in Fulham, in the western suburbs of London. The following year they had a son, Alfred George, baptised at Trotton, but sadly he died as a small baby; he was baptised on 11th December 1895 but his death was registered by the end of that month.
By 1901 Sarah and John had moved to Chichester, where they lived on Caledonian Road, between the city centre and the railway. In Chichester John worked as a domestic coachman. In the 1901 census they had one of Sarah's nephews, Alfred Mason, living with them. In 1902 Sarah and John had a son, Frederick John. They were still at Caledonian Road in the 1911 census.
John died in 1921, aged 52. Sarah and John had been married for 27 years.
Sarah married again in 1924 to a railway engine driver named Albert Edwards, a widower with four adult sons, whose first wife had died the previous year. Sarah and Albert were married for eleven years, and lived at 33 Maxwell Road in Littlehampton. Albert died in 1935 in hospital in Chichester, aged 63.
Sarah survived Albert by over 24 years. She continued living at 33 Maxwell Road in Littlehampton for some years, appearing there at the outbreak of the Second World War with two other older ladies. Sarah later moved to Selsey, where her only surviving child, Frederick, worked as a plumber. She lived at 88 High Street, Selsey. She died in hospital in Chichester on 18th April 1960, four days after her 94th birthday. Her estate was administered by her son Frederick.
