Research notes

  • Most researchers claim that she is Person:Sarah Unknown (3283) who married John Culpeper in 1688, however that marriage record states that he married a "Mrs. Sarah Mayo", indicating that Mayo was a married surname. Does additional proof exist that the marriage record is wrong and that this Sarah did eventually marry John Culpeper (and others - see her Person page)?
  • Record to consider: Sarah Mayo d 20 Dec 17353 in Perquimans. But caution, as this could also be her niece Sarah, d/o Edward Mayo who was alive when Edward wrote his 1724 will.

In the will of George Maggs, a Quaker, dated "17th day of ye 4th month called June, 1677," he mentions grandchildren Sarah, Ann, Elizabeth, and Edward Mayo, children of Edward and (his daughter) Sarah Mayo. Edward Mayo to be esecutor in trust to see his will performed. Daughter Sarah Mayo to receive "one gold diamond cut ring."
