Mrs. Sarah Jane VanWinkle, 87, widow of Henry VanWinkle, former resident of 368 Central Avenue, died at 9:50 at the home of Mrs. John Ramsey, 27 South 31st street. She had been seriously ill a month.
A resident of Newark most of her life, Mrs. VanWinkle was born April 5, 1865 in Fallsburg, the daughter of Benjamin and Martha (Search) Martin.
Her husband died in 1938, and she leaves the following children: Mrs. Frank Jackson of Granville; Mrs. Virgil Bebout of Utica; Mrs. John Parker of Largo Fla.; Mrs. Carl Lanigan of Newark; the Rev. Delpha VanWinkle of Marion, Ind.; Mrs. E.C. Miranda of Akron, Elymus and Paul VanWinkle of Utica; and 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-grandson. A son, Hugh VanWinkle of Newark, preceded her in death last May.
The body is at the Gutliph & Henderson Funeral Home where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with burial in Fallsburg Cemetery.
